"There Is A Difference"
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
-Genesis 1:27-
A three year old girl asked her father, “Daddy, do you know what the difference is between boys and girls?” The dad was taken aback by her question. He had not thought that he would have to talk about the issue until she was much, much older. Swallowing hard he answered, “No, what is the difference?” “Girls wear shower caps, “she said. “And boys don’t!” Right.
Everybody knows that there is a difference, but just how we are different and how those differences create misunderstanding between the sexes seems to be a dark secret.
In fact genetic differences between men and women as they affect our behavior have become the subject of serious scientific study only since 1980s. Prior to this, men and women joked about misunderstanding between the sexes but simply wrote them off as cultural or behavioral traits. Worst, it is now propagated as social construct.
Interestingly enough, those differences do not begin when doctors tell parents, “You have a boy!” or “You’ve got a baby girl!” Nor do sexual differences begin when you take a little girl home from the hospital and decorate her room in pink and white and put a ribbon or bow in her hair.
At conception, 23 chromosomes from your mother and 23 from your father combined to give you the genetic code which made you unique. NO ACCIDENT! From the moment of conception, you were destined to be wonderfully male or female. NOT A SOCIAL CONSTRUCT!
Then for the next six weeks the cells within the ovum multiplied, but then between sixth and eight week following conception, the hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls respiration, your heart, and a lot of your vital functions) kicked in, and set off a further complex series of developments to your body.
From that point on, your body, including your brain, began to take on specific gender characteristics in a marvelous development which ultimately controls the way you think, the way you act and the way you relate to other people.
What is interesting to me is that in the past 50 years or more, feminists and liberals have been trying to wipe out the sexual differences or even the physical difference between men and women at the very time that scientific re-search has been documenting the fact that men and women are different.
Here is the record which has stood down the ages: “Male and female He created them.” Our English word sex comes from the Latin word SECARE, which means “TO DIVIDE.” It was God who produced the first prototypes, who were distinctly male and female. And science unlocks the secrets of the brain and how it develops, it may well be that we are forced to recognize there are great many differences than the fact that girls wear shower caps and boys don’t. The facts of life have never been more apparent.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 29 And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
